Week 4

I recently had a break through with ASU Young Alumni, every senior has been getting emails every month almost about various Senior Year Experience events.  Well one of the main things that stood out to me was the Senior Grad trip with Orion.  I was extremely bummed to find out that they had already had a grad trip set up especially because I know Contiki is such a better company.  Before I was hired, one of the business development managers had been talking to ASU about setting up a trip, and mentioned that they had already signed a contract with Orion but was interested in planning a trip in September for Young Alumni.  I was given the appropriate contact information and became the liaison for Arizona State and Contiki Holidays.  We agreed on the Simply Italy itinerary and a date in September.  We have to wait to promote it till after the grad trips already booked are over, but after that we can go full force with marketing materials, promotional brochures and exclusive deals for ASU grads.

Week 3

Fall Semester went really well and I believe that I got all of ASU talking about Contiki.  I was excited to get back from Europe and start my internship for my degree.  Europe was not just a vacation but a training trip while we were on the bus on our way to each country.  We learned more about working at the offices, what we will be doing and what each department is responsible for.  I really enjoyed learning more about the company, even though the training on the bus was sometimes pretty brutal, I felt like we were learning a lot.  We were going to be well prepared for what we had ahead of us.  It was my job to set up group trips on campus through various organizations, Alumni Association, GreekLife, PAB, etc.  Its easy to talk to individual people about going on a trip but if you can get a large group to book, that was a extremely amazing success.

It had been hard making contacts on campus.  No one seems to take me seriously and I get shot down a lot of times.  I thought it was going to be easier because I have been involved at ASU but it has been a lot harder than ever thought.

Week 2

We have interns from all over the U.S.  A wide range of College Campuses are definitely represented at Contiki Headquarters.  I have worked for the Company since August 2008.  I went on a Contiki trip to Europe, summer 2007, and enjoyed myself so much, I came back and started researching how I could become an Intern for the company.  It was already too late to apply so I waited till the next application process and was hired!  We did our training in Anaheim, CA at headquarters.  We spent one day at the office and we were off to Vegas for the next leg of our Internship training.  We spent three days going over what the internship will entail, what the company is about and really getting to know each other!  I had a great time and knew after training that this internship was going to be an amazing experience.  After finishing up our training, our boss Kevin Madsen surprised us with a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon.  We were so surprised and could not wait! We got on our helicopter and were off.  They took us to the base and we had lunch and Champaign waiting for us.  It was the perfect ending to an amazing trip!  During the fall semester we were working on our college campuses promoting Contiki, giving presentation, putting on events.  I was the Campus Rep for Contiki and was responsible for getting the word out!

Throughout the semester I had many people contacting me about booking a trip, asking questions, and learning more about the company.  Each interns success was based on their referrals and success on campus.  If we had 1 person refer us while booking their trip we got to go to Europe in December, all expenses paid.  I qualified mid October!  I could not believe it! I was so excited and am still in shock that I got to experience such an amazing trip.  By the time we left I had 4 conversions (bookings) and was consider an extremely successful intern, I was in 2nd place essentially.

Week 1

Hello! I am a senior majoring in Tourism Development & Management. I have had a serious passion for travel my entire life, which is why I pursued this internship last spring. I am the Field Marketing Intern for Contiki Holidays, which is the number one travel company for people 18-35 year olds. We have trips all over the world: Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Bali, Egypt, Asia, Mexico and US/Canada. The awesome thing about Contiki is that you are traveling with people your own age and from all around the world. There are 5 main aspects included in your trips over cost. The cost includes:

1. All your accommodations- tourist class hotels everywhere you go.
2. Tour Manager- Your own personal travel guide, they know everything and everyone at every destination on your trip.
3. Tour Driver- The best drivers in Europe, they take you door to door on a luxury motor coach.
4. Food- All of your breakfasts, and half your dinners are included on all Contiki trips.
5. Sightseeing- All trips have their own unique style of sightseeing, but on a Contiki trip you are taken to all the best spots everywhere you go and are guided by the most knowledgeable people in the business.

I applied for the Field Marketing Position last spring, and went through a very long interview process. Their were over 1500 applicants and only 30 college students from all over the United States were chosen. This is my dream internship and I am very happy to be working for such an amazing company.
